Updated 7 October 202601First, quick checks
- Check the key for typos. Letters such as B and 8, or O and 0, are easy to mix up. Copy and paste it from your email if you can.
- Make sure the PC is online and the date and time are correct.
- Check that the key matches your edition (Home key on Home, Pro key on Pro). Go to Settings → System → About to see your edition.
020xC004F050 – the product key is invalid
Usually a typo, or a key for a different edition, for example a Pro key entered on Windows Home through the normal "Change product key" field. Re-type the key, and to switch Home to Pro follow the upgrade guide.
030xC004C003 – the key is blocked
Microsoft's servers rejected the key. Don't keep retrying. Contact us with your order number and we'll replace the key.
040xC004C008 – the key has already been used
The key has reached its activation limit, for example because it was already used on another PC. Contact us and we'll sort it out.
050xC004F213 or 0x803F7001 – no valid license found
Common after a motherboard change or a reinstall. Enter your product key again in Settings → System → Activation. If you linked a Microsoft account before the change, run the Activation troubleshooter and choose "I changed hardware on this device recently".
060xC004F074 or 0x8007232B – activation server not found
These mean Windows is trying to use a volume (KMS) license, often left over from a company PC or a previous activation tool. Enter your retail key in Settings → System → Activation → Change product key, or use the command line method.
07Other codes or "We can't activate Windows right now"
