Where to buy a Windows 11 Pro key: 5 options compared
Full disclosure: SOS License sells Windows 11 Pro keys, so we're one of the options below. We've tried to compare all five fairly, including where buying from Microsoft makes more sense.
Updated 7 October 202601The five options at a glance
| Where | Windows 11 Pro price | License | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Store | $199.99 | Retail, digital | None |
| Big retailers (Best Buy, Amazon, Newegg…) | Usually close to $199, sometimes discounted | Retail, boxed USB or digital code | Very low when sold by the retailer itself |
| A new PC with Windows 11 Pro | Included in the PC price | OEM, tied to that PC | None |
| Online key shops (like ours) | Much lower; ours is $24.99 | Retail or OEM, depending on the shop | Depends on the shop: check the points below |
| Marketplaces (G2A, Kinguin, eBay…) | Varies a lot by seller | Often unclear | Higher: many independent sellers |

02Microsoft Store
Microsoft sells Windows 11 Pro for $199.99 and Windows 11 Home for $139. You get a retail digital license linked to your Microsoft account, with support from Microsoft. It's the most expensive option and the safest. If you already have Windows 11 Home, Microsoft also offers an upgrade to Pro from Settings → System → Activation.
03Big retailers
Stores such as Best Buy, Amazon and Newegg sell the same retail product as a USB box or a digital code, usually close to Microsoft's price. On Amazon and similar sites, check that the item is sold by the retailer itself, not by a third-party seller.
04Buying a PC with Windows 11 Pro
If you need a new computer anyway, choosing one with Windows 11 Pro preinstalled is simple. The license is OEM: it stays with that PC and can't be moved to another one later.
05Online key shops
Key shops sell individual keys for far less than Microsoft's list price. Quality varies, so look for:
- A clear license type (Retail or OEM) and edition on the product page.
- Buyer protection: payment through PayPal or a card, never gift cards or crypto only.
- A written replacement or refund policy, and a real support email.
- Reviews on independent sites, not just on the shop's own pages.
Our Windows 11 Pro key is $24.99, delivered by email, paid through PayPal, with a 30-day replacement or refund guarantee.
06Marketplaces
On G2A, Kinguin, eBay and similar sites, many independent sellers offer keys. Some are fine, others are volume keys that activate at first and get blocked later. Buyer protection is often an extra fee. If you buy there, check each seller's rating and history, not just the marketplace's.
07Red flags, wherever you buy
- A price of just a few dollars for "lifetime" Windows 11 Pro.
- Being sent an Enterprise, Education or "KMS" key for a home PC.
- Being asked to run an activation program instead of entering a key. See generic keys and activators.
- No way to contact the seller after the sale.
08Which should you choose?
- You want zero risk and Microsoft's own support: the Microsoft Store.
- You're buying a new PC anyway: get one with Pro preinstalled.
- You want to save money on a PC you already have: a key shop with clear license terms, buyer protection and a guarantee.
